Rice Pecel is a cuisine Typical other East Java. It's hard to resist this dish, especially when served morning, the taste is delicious with high nutritional content. If you are vegetarian, this might be one of your favorite cuisine. Easy to serve, vegetables are a main ingredient in it. Then coupled with a peyek (dent), salted egg, tofu, tempeh, and more.
In Surabaya many famous Nasi Pecel stalls, including Pecel Ketabang, Pecel Bu Kus, Pecel Pandegiling, and much more. The price is very affordable, depending on the additional toppings you like. The standard price of about Rp 7000, meaning if you just want Nasi Pecel (consisting of rice, vegetables, and the dent it). If you add an egg or a piece of chicken may be only approximately Rp 12 000 - Rp 15 000 only, it already includes a glass of hot tea. Cheap isn’t it?

Rawon ( Black Beef Soup )

As I said yesterday, I really like to introducing my home town Surabaya. A city that popular with "City of Heroes". But now deeply with anything about food. Well, I'll go through with our topic, Rawon.
Kluwek or kluwak or kepayang (Pangium edule) is as the main spice which gives the strong nutty flavor and dark color to the soup.It is  fruits of kepayang tree. 


The soup is made of ground mix­ture of garlic, shallot, keluak, ginger, candlenutturmeric, red chili and salt sauteed with oil until it gets aromatic. The sauteed mixture is then poured into boiled beef stock with diced beef. Lemongrass, galangal, bay leaves, kaffir lime leaves and sugar are then added as seasonings. The spe­cial dark/black color of rawon comes from the keluak as the main spice. The soup is usually garnished with green onion and fried shallot, and served with rice, hence the name Rawon Rice or Nasi Rawon in Indonesian language, together with baby bean sprouts, salted preserved egg, shrimp crackers and sambal chili sauce on the side.
There are some restaurants which served Rawon as the main menu in Surabaya, but the most famous stall (warung) is Rawon Setan (Devil's Rawon). It sounds funny right? 

A popular rawon dish from Surabaya. The reason behind this nickname is because the warung (stall) that sells this rawon dish is open from midnight to dawn just like the time when they say devils come out. The Rawon Setan stall, is quite popular in Surabaya.
